Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – Benjamin Mogotsi (51) and Constance Motaung (50) are expected to make a second appearance in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 May 2025, for fraud. The pair’s court appearance stemmed from their arrest on Wednesday, 26 March 2025, in Rustenburg. The accused were arrested in connection with an incident wherein they allegedly connived and withdrew money from a stokvel bank account, without the knowledge nor the consent of other members. The treasurer blew the whistle to other members after noticing in November 2023 that multiple withdrawals were effected in the account. It was later discovered that Motaung and Mogotsi, who were some of the signatories, withdrew an amount of R600 000,000 with neither the consent nor informing other members. The said money was allegedly invested in cryptocurrency, which resulted in a loss. The Secretary reported the matter to the police leading to the registration of the docket, which was later taken by the Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for investigation. Subsequent to investigations, the docket was taken to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for a decision. A warrant of arrest was issued for the arrest of the alleged suspects. The duo was arrested on Wednesday, 26 March 2025, and appeared in court. They were each granted R5000.00 bail. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng welcomed the arrest and thanked the role players for their cooperation. Ends
