A coordinated intelligence-led operation by the South African Police Service and private security on Friday, 18 July 2025, resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of 14 stolen Merino sheep valued at approximately R49,900.
The multidisciplinary stock theft prevention operation, which commenced on Thursday, 17 July 2025, at 10:00 AM, acted on intelligence indicating a group of male suspects were targeting a farm in Edenburg for stock theft.
In the early hours of Friday, 18 July, at approximately 4:30 AM, the operational team successfully intercepted a white Mercedes-Benz panel van on the N6 near Reddersburg, heading towards Bloemfontein. A search of the vehicle revealed the stolen livestock inside.
Three suspects, aged 39, 32, and 29, were immediately arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen sheep and stock theft. They are expected to appear in court on Monday 21 July.
