GAUTENG – Investigations undertaken by FCS Unit members are proving fruitful with the latest sentence handed down for housebreaking with intent to rape and rape. On 01 January 2022 at 02:00, a 39-year-old woman from Actonville went to sleep after she locked the door and closed all the windows of her house. Later on, she woke up to her male neighbour next to her bed. The man pushed her back onto the bed, raped her, and left the house. The complainant opened a case at SAPS Actonville. The case was allocated to Warrant Officer Gladys Mashaba of the Benoni FCS Unit. Through the member’s diligent investigation, the 39-year-old accused, Veli Dlamini was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Benoni Magistrate Court. Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the conviction and applauds the Investigating Officer for taking the Gender based violence cases seriously and ensuring that justice is served to the victims.
