Media Statement POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service (SAPS) once again demonstrated their commitment to excellence and professionalism during the Polokwane annual Airshow held on Friday 28 and Saturday, 29 June 2024 at the Polokwane International Airport. The event led by the Department of Transport was held in partnership with various stakeholders, including the South African Police Service(SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and provided a unique platform for demonstrating various advanced aircraft capabilities and aviation relation activities while engaging with the community. The various Police Units such as Airwing, Task Force, Search and Rescue, Mounted Unit, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses, Local Criminal Record Centre(LCRC), Firearm Liquor and Second Hand Goods Control(FLASH), Mechanical Services, Flying Squad, Career Services, Corporate Communication among others, highlighted the various opportunities available within the organization, much to the amusement of scores of learners from various schools across the province as well as attendees of all ages. Representatives from the SAPS exhibitors provided valuable insights into careers, training programs, and innovative technologies that drive the organization forward. The SAPS Task Force highlighted a series of dynamic demonstrations, highlighting their expertise in areas such as rescue operations. In addition, the South African National Defence Force various aircraft performed a series of precision manoeuvres and tactical demonstrations, leaving spectators in awe of the skills and expertise of the aircrew. The seamless coordination and teamwork displayed by the Department of Transport, SAPS, and SANDF underscored their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans. The Premier of Limpopo Province Dr Phophi Ramathoba officially opened the event on the 29th, accompanied by her delegation team MEC of Transport and Community Safety Ms Susani Violet Mathye, MEC of Health Ms Dieketseng Masesi Mashego, MEC of Education Ms Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, the Executive Mayor of CDM CIIr Mamedupi Teffo, Transport and Community Safety HOD Mr Stephen Matsena and they were joined by CEO of GAAL Ms Mokgadi Matli and Chairperson Mr Victor Xaba as well as other dignitaries. The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing Major General Jan Scheepers honoured the event on behalf of the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.The Provincial Head of Operational Command Center(POCC) Brigadier Martin Van Staden was also present to ensure the smooth running of the annual show.
The event was a huge success and the Limpopo SAPS exhibitors under the coordination of Warrant Officer Mosima Lekota attached to Corporate Communication expressed pride in their performance and that they are honoured to be able to showcase their capabilities and educational opportunities which is part of their contribution to crime prevention and law enforcement.
