Presidency responds to Rasool’s expulsion, emphasizes diplomatic decorum
The South African Presidency has acknowledged the expulsion of Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool from the United States, calling the development “regrettable.”
In an official statement, the Presidency urged all relevant stakeholders to uphold diplomatic decorum while addressing the matter. It reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship with the United States, despite the diplomatic fallout.
The statement comes after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared Rasool “persona non grata,” effectively barring him from the country. The South African government has not yet indicated whether it will take further diplomatic action in response.
