Somizi on CPT man’s racist pub confrontation: ‘Let’s protect him’

While entertainer Somizi has acknowledged the trouble Cape Town man Chris Logan took in confronting the “racist” house owners of Hank’s Olde Irish pub, in the identical breath, he claims it was one thing that ought to’ve been performed “decades ago.”

Sharing the viral clip, Somizi shared his emotions over the racist encounter. He posted: “What this young man(Chris Logan) did should have been done decades ago.”

Somizi additionally promised to go to the pub however acknowledged that social media had prevented customers from tagging the pub – Hank’s Olde Irish, situated in Cape Town.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE VIRAL CLIP?

In the clip, a person named Christopher Logan is seen confronting the “racist” proprietor of a pub – later recognized as Hank’s Olde Irish Pub in Cape Town – about his resolution to allegedly limit folks of color from coming into the institution.

According to Christopher, the pub’s bouncer questioned his black pal Thabiso Danca, who claimed he was “not allowed” to enter “without a white person.” According to the bouncer, this was as a result of pub’s proper of admission.

Speaking to the proprietor, Christopher is filmed saying: “You think you have the right to tell whoever you want to come in, you don’t…You don’t have the right to discriminate against anyone in this country – it’s a crime”.

He added: “This is firstly a crime in this country. You exist in South Africa, where we have a deeply painful history of this”. He continues: “Do you think this is all right? Is this the practice of the business?”.

Becoming irate on the man’s denial, Christopher then orders the proprietor to apologise for his “racist” behaviour.

He provides: “Look at this man in the eye and apologise, is a good place to f**king start. Recognise the seriousness of this situation”.

The proprietor then affords a sheepish apology to Thabiso after Christopher threatens to tell the general public in regards to the racial assault.

‘RACIST’ OWNER RESPONDS

Despite his “apology”, the proprietor of Hank’s Old Irish Pub did a U-turn on claims they discriminated in opposition to non-white patrons. They additionally denied claims that they had been “racist”.

In a press release to the SABC, they stated: “In the past 30 years of operating business in Cape Town, we as owners have never nor have we ordered our staff to discriminate on any basis whatsoever, whether that be gender, sexual orientation or race”.

After the video went viral, the house owners then claimed they had been “concerned” for his or her security. To add insult to damage, the pub house owners claimed that they had opened a case of assault in opposition to the boys who confronted them.
