Media Statement POLOKWANE – The deceased was with his father in law and two sons aged nine and thirteen years old busy fishing at Tubatse dam at Steelpoort on 29 December 2024 at about 18:30 when they were attacked by six unknown African male persons carrying assegais and golf sticks. The deceased was attacked, stabbed and hit with golf sticks while sitting on the camp chair. He managed to approach his vehicle, a white Ford Ranger with Mpumalanga number plates to get his firearm. One shot was fired and assailants ran away in different directions. He managed to drive his bakkie together with his children and father in law while he was injured. He could not drive any further as a results of injuries he sustained and the father in law drove until Lanex village. The Police and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and he was certified dead while seating inside the vehicle. The following were found and seized as exhibits at the scene at Tubatse dam, one cartridge, one assegai, and golf stick lying on the grass. The deceased was identified as a 41-year-old John Peter Grobler residing at Lydenburg.
