Six teens arrested in Elukwatini, Mpumalanga for murder of fellow pupil
Police in Elukwatini have arrested six teenagers, aged 16 to 19, in connection with the brutal murder of Mcedisi Christopher Nhlapho, a 19-year-old grade 12 pupil.
The incident occurred on May 27 in Tjakastad, near Elukwatini, when Nhlapho was fatally stabbed while walking home from school with friends.
Authorities apprehended a 15-year-old suspect shortly after the attack, followed by five additional arrests the next day.
The motive for the killing remains under investigation, but the tragedy has shaken the local community.
Four of the suspects, all minors, have been referred to a probation officer for assessment. The two older suspects, aged 18 and 19, are scheduled to appear in the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court today, May 29.
Acting provincial police commissioner Maj-Gen Zeph Mkhwanazi condemned the violence, urging communities to address rising youth crime.
