Media Statement POLOKWANE – Operation Valua Umgodi continues to yield positive results, as more suspects were arrested for illegal mining and other related crimes in the Limpopo Province. The Vala Umgodi Proactive Team members in Sekhukhune District nabbed a 30-year-old suspect for illegal mining. The suspect was found at Matlala Ramoshebo Village, in Matlelerekeng Policing area, loading a sand into a white Fuso truck. The suspect failed to produce a permit to mine in the area. Police seized items such as four square shovels, one pick with a handle including a Fuso truck. In another illegal mining related incident, reported on Friday, 14 March 2025, at Vhembe District, Vala Umgodi Operation members conducted a disruptive operation and spotted a group of suspects at Nzhelele River in the Mphephu policing area. Members approached the group and the suspects noticed Police and fled into different directions. Police confiscated two shovels and a panga at the scene. The members proceeded with patrols, and five illegal immigrants, aged between 23 and 47, were arrested along Musekwa road in the Mphephu Policing area. The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court on 17 March 2025. The Police investigations are ongoing. Ends
