Media Statement NELSPRUIT – Police in Amersfoort arrested six suspects yesterday, Thursday 13 March 2025 through investigation after a number of business robberies were reported in the area. It is alleged that the robberies were committed in the early hours of Monday, 17 February 2025 where suspects gained entrance on three different shops through the roof of the business premises in Ezamokuhle China 2 section and in one shop they stole cartons of different cigarettes, undisclosed amount of cash as well as a Samsung cellphone to the value of R3200. Their ages range from 18 to 22 years. Their arrest was made successfully by intense investigation team in collaboration with Vispol members. The team was led to Embalenhle after a coordinated plan that was operationalized. A raid at a certain premises in Embalenhle was carried out in the wee hours of 13 March 2025. It was during this operation that the men and women in Blue found four suspects at one premises, and upon further investigation, the team was led to the arrest of two other suspects. During their arrest, a cell phone was found in the possession of the suspects. The police are working with the neighbouring stations as suspects might possibly be involved in other similar cases. Therefore Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects as the investigation continues. The suspects were charged accordingly and are expected to appear at the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court today, 14 March 2025. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended the team for the swift arrest of the group of suspects that was terrorising the community.
