Media Statement GAUTENG – On Monday, 17 March 2025, at approximately 16:00, members of the Atteridgeville SAPS were conducting crime prevention duties when they noticed a suspicious white Toyota Quantum with six male occupants driving in the area. After stopping the car, the officers told the occupants to get out and lie on the ground in accordance with tactical protocols. When the police searched the car, they found two firearms concealed beneath the back seats, along with 26 rounds of ammunition. Four additional rounds of ammunition were also discovered inside a jersey inside the car. The firearms’ serial numbers had been filed off, according to initial investigations conducted on the site. All six suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The investigation remains ongoing to determine whether the suspects can be linked to other criminal activities. The recovered firearms will undergo forensic analysis to establish whether they were used in any previous crimes.
