KIMBERLEY – Jo Ann Coetzee (23) was recently sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for the brutal attack on her 18-year-old brother in Keimoes. On 25 November 2023, the accused was fighting with her mother at their house in Noordkamp, Keimoes, when her brother was called to intervene. She threw beer in his face and stabbed him in his back and chest. Coetzee was subsequently arrested and sentenced on 30 October 2024 in the Kakamas Magistrates Court to 6 years suspended for 5 years for attempted murder and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. The SAPS Management lauds Detective Sergeant TZ Mohutsiwa of the Kakamas Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for her thorough investigation that led to the conviction. The SAPS in the Northern Cape continues to display a zero tolerance approach towards domestic violence and are committed to bringing perpetrators thereof to justice . Ends
