Singer and songwriter Lady X (born Xolisa Mvula) is recovering from injuries following a violent fallout with her ex-partner.
Lady X, who has collaborated with the likes of DJ Maphorisa and Tyler ICU, is currently staying at a hotel in eastern Johannesburg after reportedly escaping a violent incident.
According to a close associate, the singer fled after an argument escalated while she was in a vehicle with her partner. It is alleged that he pushed her out of the moving car and drove away, leaving her stranded until she was assisted by a passerby.
The couple reportedly met last November at a traditional healing initiation school. “They met in a spiritual space where emotions feel amplified,” a friend explained. “It wasn’t a typical dating environment; everything felt intense and fast.”
While the friend noted there were no prior signs of physical abuse, the situation reportedly turned aggressive a few nights ago while the partner was heavily intoxicated. “She was left bruised. She went to the police station and he was briefly detained, but no formal case was opened. He was released once he sobered up,” the friend added.
Lady X has since moved out of their shared home and is relocating her belongings with police support.
Focusing on her future, Lady X stated: “I have been away from the music scene for a long time, focusing on my growth and how I want to present myself. All these negative experiences are lessons that will surely help me create great songs.”
