POLOKWANE – The ongoing intelligence driven operations, under operation Vala Umgodi conducted simultaneously across the Limpopo Province continue to yield significant results. The multidisciplinary teams comprising various police components and members of SANDF conducted operations at Tzaneen policing area under Mopani District, Mahwelereng SAPS under Waterburg District and Musina SAPS under Vhembe District on Monday 29 July 2024. In Tzaneen SAPS under Mopani District nine suspects were arrested for illegal sand mining and out of the nine suspects, three are illegal foreigners. During the arrest the following items were confiscated: – 08 × Shovels – 01 × Tipper truck – 02 × Black Bosch heavy duty batteries. The suspects will appear before Tzaneen Magistrate Court soon. In Mahwelereng policing area under Waterburg District three suspects aged between 41 and 51 were arrested for illegal mining operations. During the arrest the team confiscated the following items: – 01 × Tractor with trailer – 04 × Shovels – 01 × Pick. The arrested suspects will appear before Mahwelereng magistrate court soon. In Musina under Vhembe District the team apprehended 32 undocumented persons aged between 18 and 50 for contravention of the Immigration Act. The team after following the proper channels directly deported the illegal Immigrants back into Zimbabwe. The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrests and confiscation, further pointing out that operation Vala Umgodi continues to keep the country safe and make the citizens feel free from any form of criminality Ends
