Shebeshxt Faces 21 Charges as Polokwane Court Case Returns in September
POLOKWANE, LIMPOPO – Limpopo musician Katlego Lehlogonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt or Shebe Maburna, is expected back in the Polokwane Regional Court on 10 September 2026 for a pre-trial hearing.
The musician reportedly faces an amended charge sheet containing 21 charges, including attempted murder, culpable homicide, robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and firearm-related offences.
The charges arise from several separate alleged incidents and remain subject to determination by the court.
The pre-trial hearing was postponed to allow Chauke and his legal representatives sufficient time to consult over newly added charges and prepare for the trial.
Chauke has remained in custody since his arrest in November 2025. His applications for bail have previously been unsuccessful.
During earlier bail proceedings, Chauke’s legal representatives argued that he required access to medical care and was willing to comply with strict bail conditions. The State opposed his release, raising concerns relating to the seriousness of the charges and allegations that some offences were committed while other matters were already before the courts.
A bail decision is not a finding of guilt. It determines only whether an accused person should be released while awaiting the completion of criminal proceedings.
The case has attracted considerable public attention because of Chauke’s popularity within the Lekompo music scene and his substantial following across social-media platforms.
His supporters have attended previous appearances, while the allegations have also prompted debate about celebrity accountability and the treatment of high-profile accused persons within the justice system.
Chauke remains presumed innocent on all charges unless the State proves its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The 10 September appearance is expected to address trial readiness, the amended charges and possible future trial dates.
