EASTERN CAPE – The SAPS joined forces with their law enforcement partners from the traffic department as well as a non-governmental organisation known as ” Ithemba” in collaborating a fun filled day for the street dwellers and anyone who wanted to attend at the Johanna Maria Community Park on 30 March 2024. With hearts full of compassion and a desire to spread joy, the mentioned departments came together to organise the special event for anyone in need of a little extra love. Inspired by the spirit of Easter, the aim was to remind everyone of the unconditional love that binds us all together. The SAPS Spiritual Crime Prevention committee started off the day’s proceedings with a divine message that God loves us all An Easter egg hunt in the park, provided lots of laughter and excitement, however at the end of the day, everyone was a winner and received an Easter egg The Maletswai “Lions” soccer team showed their support and played soccer with the younger street children. Meanwhile, volunteers from the NGO served up delicious meals, ensuring that everyone had a warm plate of food to enjoy. The aroma of the freshly cooked food filled the park and the worries of the world seemed to fade away for the invited guests. The organisers were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the local community, including generous donations from local businesses who had sponsored the event.
At the end of the day, what mattered most was not the soccer matches or the Easter egg hunt or the delicious food, but the sense of unity and belonging that had been created. In a world often divided by differences, this Easter celebration served as a powerful reminder of the love that connects us all, a love so deep that it was willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of others.
