Sibiya’s alleged WhatsApp exchanges with16-year-old revealed in court
State presents investigator’s account of communications with a minor during bail
proceedings.
Suspended deputy national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya allegedly
communicated privately with a 16-year-old girl and requested sexual material, the Randburg
Magistrate’s Court heard on 1 October 2026
According to TimesLIVE’s account of the proceedings, the allegations were set out in an affidavit by
Detective Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu, attached to the Commission Recommendations Task
Team, and read into the record during Sibiya’s bail application.
Ndlovu said her affidavit drew on witness interviews, evidence gathered during the investigation and
expert reports. The prosecution’s account included allegations about images obtained from the
teenager’s cellphone and subsequent requests for videos.
The allegations form part of a case in which Sibiya faces charges including rape, trafficking in
persons and sexual grooming. The court was considering his application for bail, rather than
determining his guilt.
Sibiya denies the allegations. The minor is not identified in this report.
