PRETORIA, 18 AUGUST 2026 | The long-running Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has taken another turn after proceedings were postponed as the State seeks to introduce additional evidence.

The matter in the High Court in Pretoria was postponed on Tuesday until Thursday.

The latest development once again places intense attention on one of South Africa’s most closely followed murder trials.

Meyiwa, the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, was shot and killed in Vosloorus in October 2014.

Five men are standing trial in connection with his murder.

They have pleaded not guilty.

The State’s attempt to introduce further evidence adds another development to proceedings that have stretched over several years and generated enormous public interest.

The court will have to deal with the admissibility and handling of any additional evidence in accordance with the rules governing the trial.

For Meyiwa’s family and millions of South Africans who have followed the case since his death, the continuing proceedings represent a search for answers more than a decade after the football star was killed.

The trial has produced extensive testimony, legal challenges and disputes over evidence.

The latest postponement means attention will now shift to Thursday, when proceedings are expected to resume.
