Media Statement PRETORIA – A senior officer, aged 54, Brigadier (Dr) Mapome Mohajane, appeared in the Bela-Bela Magistrates court this morning and was granted R10 000 and will appear again on the 26 March 2025. This is following his arrest by the Serious Corruption Investigation of Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, today, 15 January 2025, and allegations of corruption. The officer, who is stationed at the Hawks’ Head Office, is accused of attempting to influence a police investigating officer involved in a case against a councillor in one of the regions in Limpopo. The incident occurred on 14 January 2022, when the accused approached the complainant, a fellow police officer, and requested assistance in helping a councillor who was facing a criminal investigation. The complainant, who was the investigating officer on the case, was promised tenders and future favours in exchange for his assistance. The senior officer further allegedly offered to use his connections at the police’s Head Office to secure a promotion for the complainant if he supported him. Following an investigation, the senior officer was charged with corruption The Hawks remain committed to upholding the law and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability. No one, regardless of their position or rank within the Directorate, will be allowed to undermine our core values or the trust the public places in us.
Lieutenant General (Dr/Adv) Godfrey Lebeya, the National Head of the Hawks, emphasized that the arrest of a senior officer highlights the Directorate’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption. He stated: “I commend the investigations by the Serious Corruption Investigation, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Head Office. The fact that we have arrested one of our own is a clear indication that we execute our work without fear, favour or prejudice”
