Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The pursuit of SAPS to stop extortion in the Western Cape saw Provincial Detectives apprehend three additional suspects for extortion at two Chinese owned shops which was uncovered on Sunday, 06 October 2024 in Milnerton. One of the suspects, a 51-year-old pastor was arrested on a bus en route to Laingsburg last night, while a security officer was arrested at the mall where the extortion occurred. His colleague who also performs duties at the mall was arrested this morning at his Khayelitsha residence. This brings the total number of suspects to 12 in relation to the incident. Eight police officers and three civilians appeared in court yesterday where the charges were withdrawn against two civilian females. The eight police officers and one former police officer are detained until their next court appearance on 22 October 2024. While the case remains under investigation, the three civilians who were arrested last night and this morning are scheduled to make their court appearance tomorrow in Cape Town.
