Scottburgh trail run honours go to David Lamont and Sarah Gray

Sarah Gray and David Lamont proved to be the strongest runners within the ladies’s and males’s classes over the flagship 20km race of the Sappi Scottburgh Trail Run Weekend.

Heading into the occasion Gray was all the time going to be the ladies to beat. 

She presently sits on prime of the Quattro ROAG Series. 

Sarah Gray takes the honours to lengthen sequence lead

Following on from some good type, Sarah Gray backed that up when she gained the ladies’s 20km race on the Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Run Weekend on Saturday.

Gray lived up to the pre-race anticipation to win the ladies’s race and end in third place total.

“It was quite difficult today with a lot of up and down but there was some good single track and it wasn’t too technical,” Gray mentioned after her second consecutive ROAG Series race win.

“It was beautiful running through the forest and the sugar cane so it was a great morning out on the trails here.”

Gameplan

However, the race wasn’t straight-forward as Gray may need initially anticipated. 

Kimberley Anderson put Gray beneath stress within the closing phases, she was comfortable that she held on for the win although.

“I saw her behind me with a few kilometres to go so I knew that I had to work a bit harder but I managed to hold her off.

“I’m happy to get the win today and it’s another good result for me when it comes to the ROAG Series.”

Strong ladies’s discipline

Anderson completed second within the ladies’s race and ended fourth total whereas Zoe Papadakis completed third within the ladies’s race and fifth total.

The males’s race was dominated by occasion veteran Lamont who gained by 5 minutes over Scottburgh native Merrick Kennedy. Lamont will likely be again for the MTB race on Sunday however loved his outing alongside the paths on the KZN South Coast.

“It was fantastic out there today and the trails were good and really well marked and the water tables were great, it’s always a joy coming here,” Lamont mentioned.

“I think I’ve done every MTB race here and to add the trail run is fantastic and it’s an event that people need to add to their list!”

Lamont bought himself to the entrance of the race and didn’t look again all through.

“I was hoping the youngsters would be here because I’m a master and usually they come through and give me a hiding! I am hoping that next year the younger guys can come through and we can have a real dice.”

The 12km race noticed Bongani Makathini dominate the sector, successful by over 4 minutes forward of Gregory Hodgkinson in second Dumisani Hlongwane in third.

Scottburgh hosts nice weekend

Kristen Hulley gained the ladies’s 12km showdown with Diane Wearne in second and Kevishinee Perumaul rounded out the ladies’s podium.

In the shortest occasion of the day, the 5km race, Luke Newlands took house the highest place forward of Kevin Rainier in second and then the ladies’s first positioned finisher Kayleigh Lindeque in third.

Lindeque was the quickest within the ladies’s occasion forward of Jane Dammann in second and Melanie Nadasen in third place.

The racing continues on Sunday when the MTBers take to the South Coast tracks for the 40km Marathon and the 20km half-marathon.
