Scheepers urges Limpopo police to remain courageous and disciplined
LIMPOPO – Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers has urged police officers to remain courageous, disciplined and committed to serving communities as the province observes National Prayer Day.
Scheepers said the occasion provides an opportunity for police officers, communities and stakeholders to seek strength and guidance while reflecting on the challenges facing law enforcement and society.
He reminded members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) that wearing the police uniform comes with a responsibility to uphold the law and serve communities with integrity.
“The uniform calls us to uphold the law. We must remain strong and courageous in the execution of our duties,” said Scheepers.
He called on police officers to report for duty with dedication, protect vulnerable members of society, uphold the Constitution and conduct themselves as servants of justice and custodians of peace.
Scheepers also stressed the importance of treating members of the public with respect, humility and dignity while delivering professional and ethical policing services.
He said the fight against crime could not be left to the police alone and called on communities to become active partners in crime prevention.
Communities were urged to report criminal activities, refuse to harbour or protect criminals and provide support to victims of crime.
“We must stand against crime and stand with victims, while recognising the challenges faced by police officers who continue to serve under immense pressure,” he said.
The provincial commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Limpopo Provincial Management to visible policing, ethical conduct and accountability.
He warned that action would be taken against police officers whose conduct brings the SAPS uniform into disrepute.
As Limpopo joins the country in observing #NationalPrayerDay, Scheepers said faith should be accompanied by practical action, discipline and renewed dedication to the constitutional mandate of the police.
“God gives us strength, but He also expects us to remain disciplined, courageous and committed to doing what is right,” he said.
