KIMBERLEY – The much needed rain is welcome, however there is a risk of flooding and other related challenges. The SAPS in the Northern Cape urges the public to remain vigilant and cautious. The following precautions can be adhered to ensure your safety, avoid taking risks, and stay informed. – Monitor the rising water levels and evacuate to a safer place or higher spot, – Avoid crossing bridges, streams and rivers, – Motorists must be careful and avoid driving through flooded areas, – Monitor regular weather alerts on television and radio, – Do not try to drive over low water bridges, – Be especially vigilant at night when it is harder to recognise hazards, – Do not walk into low moving water during flood conditions, – Rather drive and park in a safe area, – Do not park your car along rivers, especially during heavy rains and thunderstorms, – Avoid contact with flood waters that may be contaminated.
