Media Statement WELKOM – A former Police Warrant Officer unlawfully occupied a State house despite efforts to have him vacate the premises. He unlawfully collected monthly rent payments from five tenants, totalling R75, 000. On 08 May 2024, 66-year-old Manie Richard Williams, a former Warrant Officer, was sentenced in the Welkom Regional Court. A case of Fraud was registered in May 2023 when it was discovered that an SAPS State house on Fischer Street, Dagbreek, Welkom, was being occupied illegally. The 66-year-old pensioner allegedly collected rental payments from tenants since 2018. Detective Sergeant Vusimuzi Ngomane of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit was assigned to conduct a thorough investigation. The suspect was arrested on 21 June 2023 near Dagbreek Shopping Complex, Welkom, and was granted bail of R1000 on 03 July 2023. The pensioner was sentenced as follows: for two counts of Fraud, he received a four years’ imprisonment sentence, suspended for four years’ on the condition that the accused is not convicted of Fraud, Theft, or Attempted Theft during the suspension period. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. Ends
