WESTERN CAPE – On 06 November 2024, members attached to Crime Intelligence were busy with Vehicle Check Point (VCPs) in Gugulethu when they spotted a white Toyota Avanza. The members followed the vehicle until NY3 where they stopped it and found two males in the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found an AK47 rifle and one empty magazine hidden in the boot of the vehicle. The suspects, both aged 33, were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and detained at Gugulethu SAPS for further investigation. They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on Thursday, 07 November 2023 on the mentioned charges. In an unrelated incident, members attached to Delft Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) were informed of a joined hot pursuit of a vehicle that was involved in a house robbery in Muizenberg earlier today, 06 November 2024. The vehicle and three suspects were caught in the Stikland area. Further investigations revealed that the suspects left a firearm at a premises in N2 Gateway in Delft. They were taken to the address where the firearm was hidden and members recovered a 9mm firearm, 30 rounds of ammunition and several cellular telephones and arrested another accomplice. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the house robbery that transpired in Muizenberg, and one suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of suspected stolen property.
The suspect, all foreign nationals aged between 20 and 35 are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates court once charged.
