Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – On 17 October 2024 at 18:00, Provincial and District SAPS Management steered the Provincial Commissioner’s Community Imbizo in Concordia in the Namakwa District. The outreach was attended by the Northern Cape Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Major General Thabo Mphuthi, the Namakwa District Commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, Provincial Heads, senior officers and members of SAPS, representatives from numerous Government Departments and community structures. The programme was broadcast live via the community radio station, Radio NFM, providing an opportunity for listeners who were unable to attend to follow the proceedings. The Provincial Head of Pro-Active Policing, Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, led the programme and highlighted the purpose of the event. Brigadier Samuel Mathe, the Provincial Head of Crime Registrar, provided an overview of the crime prevalent in the area as well as the high crime areas where policing actions will be intensified Representatives from Government Departments rendered messages of support with the emphasis on delivering efficient services to the community. In her keynote address, Major General Mphuthi affirmed the importance of strengthening partnerships and claiming back the streets from criminals. In light of this, the scourge GBVF related crimes, especially domestic violence, must receive the necessary attention. The policing of liquor outlets will continue unabated as the misuse and abuse of alcohol is the main generator of contact crimes. She made a plea to tuck shop owners to adhere to operating times and reinforce personal security. In conclusion, she reminded the audience that the safety of our nation depends on our collective actions. The Provincial Launch of the Safer Festive Season will be hosted in Port Nolloth on 1 November 2024, with the focus on the well-being and safety of residents and tourists during the festive season and beyond. She urged the community to be responsible during this period and to refrain from drinking and driving. As schools will be closed, parents are encouraged to ensure the safety of children at all times. Motorists must adhere to Traffic Regulations and practice road safety. Panellists representing different departments and entities mandated to address matters raised by the community, engaged with the audience to address complaints and concerns in order to formulate solutions. The SAPS Provincial Inspectorate was also on hand to record and address complaints.
Community outreach endeavours will continue in the district to ensure the delivery of efficient services and to operationalise information provided by the community.
