Media Statement ZWELITSHA – The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene and her Management condemn the attack on Police members and are saddened and shocked to learn that a 58-year-old Warrant Officer was gunned down in front of his home on Saturday 30 November 2024 at about 20:30. According to the report, it is alleged on Saturday, 30 November 2024, an off duty Police Warrant Officer attached to Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit was shot by unknown armed male/s in front of his residence at KwaMabefu Location outside King Williams Town. When Police arrived on the scene, they were shown his body with a gunshot wound on his head. Upon investigation, they noticed that nothing was taken from his belongings, and his vehicle was on the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown and will form part of the investigation. The case has been referred to the Directorate of Priority Crime and Investigation unit (DPCI) for further investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has said that the attack on the Police member is an attack on the authority of the state, and it will never be tolerated. She is encouraging the community members to assist the Investigating Officers with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator/s. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the member and the colleagues, and may his soul rest in peace,” remarked Lt Gen Mene.
