The event, organized as part of a team-building initiative, brought together members of the dedicated operational unit responsible for combating illicit mining activities in the province. Leading the event was the highly experienced TACJOC Commander, Colonel David Malisa, alongside Operational Commander, Colonel Choene Magwai, Analyst Commander, Lieutenant Makhosi Jwara, Combat Commander Lieutenant Colonel Orapeleng Motecwane, Crime Intelligence, Detectives and Forensic Service Commanders. The trio has been instrumental in overseeing the strategic operations of Vala Umgodi, which aligns with the SAPS Pillar Five approach in the fight against illegal mining. The evening recognized the efforts of the TACJOC team, whose responsibilities extend beyond direct operations to support services such as administration, fleet management, case control, and record-keeping. The unit also benefits from the expertise of drone pilots, who provide critical aerial surveillance in the mission to curb unlawful mining activities. Since the cycle which commenced on 1 December 2024, TACJOC has been coordinating operational teams from various districts, led by Venue Operational Centre (VOC) Commanders drawn from specialized SAPS units such as the Tactical Response Team, Detectives, and Forensics. Under the stewardship of Colonel Malisa and his leadership team, Operation Vala Umgodi has made significant strides, resulting in the arrest of one thousand, three hundred and seventy-nine (1379) suspects for the months of January and December respectively. During the gala dinner, TACJOC members took the opportunity to step away from their demanding duties, swapping boots for heels and engaging in discussions to foster motivation and camaraderie. The event served as a platform for members to express their appreciation for being part of Operation Vala Umgodi and to share valuable insights gained during their deployment. In their addresses, Colonel Malisa, Colonel Magwai, and Lieutenant Jwara emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork, adherence to the SAPS code of conduct, and unwavering dedication to duty. Colonel Malisa encouraged members to uphold the high standards of professionalism even after their deployment, urging them to remain motivated and committed to their responsibilities upon returning to their respective posts. The evening was a resounding success, reinforcing the bond among TACJOC members and reaffirming their collective mission to protect communities from the detrimental effects of illicit mining. Ends
