WESTERNBURG – In a bid to tackle critical issues affecting our communities, the Provincial Corporate Communication in Limpopo represented by Sergeant Maphure Manamela Provincial Media Center addressed the elderly congregation at Roman Catholic church during their Sunday service on 28 July 2024 in Westenburg outside Polokwane. The address focused on the pressing issues of abuse and gender-based violence (GBV), which have increasingly become a concern in our society. During the service, Sergeant Manamela emphasized the importance of recognizing the signs of abuse and GBV and encouraged victims and witnesses to come forward. “Our elderly community members are invaluable to us, and it is crucial that they are aware of the resources and support available to them,” Sergeant Manamela stated. “Abuse and Gender Based Violence are serious crimes that can have devastating effects on individuals and families. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that everyone feels safe and supported,” she added. In conclusion, Sergeant Manamela outlined the various forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, and financial, and provided information on how to report such incidents. Additionally, resources for support and counselling, including the Victim Empowerment Programme were made available to those in attendance. Informational pamphlets were distributed during the event.
