GAUTENG – Members of SAPS Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence Office received information regarding the suspect who is possessing unlicensed firearms and the suspect believed to be hiring them out in Germiston area On Wednesday, 19 March 2025, an intelligence driven operation was conducted with members of Germiston Crime Prevention. The suspect was spotted inside his residence at Matthe Street, Diniwiddie. Upon arrival at the suspect’s address, the permission to search the premises was granted. Members found (3) unlicensed firearms in 3 metal safe , two revolver firearms one with serial number filled off, a 9 mm lamma Parabellum, 2 magazines filled with 5 x live rounds each and 178 x 9mm live rounds and 2x special rounds for a 38 revolver. A 47-year-suspect was arrested for possession of 3 unlicensed firearms. The suspect was taken to SAPS Germiston for detention after he failed to give satisfactory answers regarding the licenses to possess the firearms In Putfontein, On Wednesday 19 March 2025, a 30-year-old suspect was arrested at Nkalankala Street, Mayfield in Putfontein during intelligence driven operation with EMPD Tracing Unit. The suspect believed to be one of the prison gang members and drg addicts, comitting house robberies around Springs policing precincts. He was nabbed with a 9 mm Pistol,a magazine with 7 live ammunition . In another incident, A 40-year-old suspect was arrested at Phomolong Section, Rabie Ridge on Thursday, 20 March 2025 at about 00:20, during intelligence driven operation in conjunction with SAPS Rabie Ridge Crime Prevention unit. The suspect was found with Norinco 9mm pistol, a magazine with 4 live rounds of ammunition.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole thanked the members for their swift response in squeezing the criminals’ space in the District.
