Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Integrated efforts to address the prevalence of vehicle thefts and hijackings yelled positive results when members pounced on premises in Khayelitsha and Makhaza where they discovered a stolen vehicle and a variety of vehicle parts. On Saturday, 15 March 2025 at about 16:00 members of Makhaza SAPS hijacking team was patrolling hotspots at SST when they noticed two males busy removing parts from a white Opel Astra. The members swiftly pounced on the two suspects, aged 18 and 31, and arrested them. Upon further investigation the members established that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Milnerton earlier this month. The vehicle was subsequently seized and the two suspects were detained at Makhaza SAPS for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle. They are scheduled to appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court once charged. Meanwhile a Khayelitsha integrated operation addressing second-hand goods places and chop shops yielded positive results when the members pounced on an unregistered scrapyard situated in Kewuti Street. The chassis and different vehicles parts and seats were discovered on the premises. The visible numbers were tested and one was positively linked to a vehicle which was reported stolen in Mfuleni earlier this month. It was established that the vehicle belong to a local transport company. No one was found at the house. An Inquiry docket was registered for further investigation. All the vehicle parts were taken to a police safeguarding facility for further investigation. Ends
