Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Efforts to curb crime in our communities and to maintain law and order are yielding success as police members are hard at work during safer festive operations throughout the Western Cape on Friday evening, 15 November 2024. Members of the Lingelethu West Reaction Team were busy with crime prevention duties in Spine Road, Ilitha Park when they received information about the occupants of a vehicle who were busy robbing people. They spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but one of the occupants in the vehicle fired shots at the members. The occupant was subsequently wounded and taken to a medical facility for treatment. The members pursued to search the occupants and the vehicle and found a firearm with ammunition in the vehicle. Four adult males were arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and attempted murder. They are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 18 November 2024. In an unrelated intervention members of Public Order Police conducted crime prevention in the Eerste River area due to the ongoing gang violence when they stopped and searched the suspect and found him in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He faces charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Furthermore, Public Order Police members arrested a 31-year-old male when he was caught with a .22 calibre pistol in his possession. The members searched a premises in Bellville South and found the pistol in the possession of the suspect. Meanwhile, Public Order Police members searched premises in Erasmus Street, Bellville South and arrested a 42-year-old female when they found 80 mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash in the house. Members of Gugulethu police arrested an adult male when they heard gunshots going off in the nearby vicinity. They followed the sound of the gunshots and apprehended the suspect with the firearm with ammunition in his possession. The suspects will make their respective court appearances on Monday, 18 November 2024. These operations will continue throughout the festive season and beyond to make the Western Cape a safer place for all inhabitants and visitors.
