28 March 2025 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has decided to postpone the NEC Meeting that was to be held this weekend to afford full support to the programmes of the national teams.
An unprecedented number of national teams have been in camp in the last few weeks as we saw Bafana Bafana participating in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho in Polokwane, Limpopo, and against Benin in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Then, South Africa are through to the next round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers after beating Egypt 3-1 at the Suez Canal Stadium, in Ismailia a few weeks ago. The team played in Bloemfontein, Free State, and then travelled to Ismailia, Egypt, for the second leg.
The South African U17 men’s team was also in camp and preparing for the CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be held from 31 March 2025 – 19 April 2025 in Morocco. The South African U17 women’s national team, Bantwana, were also in a camp and competed against Nigeria at home and away in a FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier. The South African U20 men’s team hosted Botswana in two friendly matches in Johannesburg as part of their preparations for the U20 AFCON. Finally, Banyana Banyana played a two-match series against Lesotho as part of their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July.
In the midst of these programmes, the SAFA Coaching Department held a CAF A Refresher Course at SAFA House, Johannesburg. This was a refresher course for CAF A certificate holders from previous years.
We thank the members of the NEC for their understanding as we give full support to the obligatory programmes of our various national teams and the technical department.
