4 March 2025 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) is saddened by the passing of Namibia Football Association (NFA) Secretary General Charles Siyauya.
Siyauya, who was appointed to the position in April 2024, reportedly passed away at a hospital in Windhoek, Namibia, on Monday, 3 March 2025.
The NFA confirmed his passing on Tuesday morning.
“It is with deep sadness that the Namibia Football Association confirms the passing of its General Secretary, the late Charles Sikabonga Siyauya, who passed away on Monday, 3rd March 2025 in a local hospital,” the NFA said.
SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao recently attended the Confederation of African Football’s inaugural InTandem: CAF General Secretaries Leadership Workshop in Cairo, Egypt, with Siyauya and was shocked after hearing the sad news.
“I am still shocked and in disbelief over the sudden passing of our fellow GS, Mr Charles Siyauya from the Namibia Football Association. We were recently in Cairo, Egypt, attending the CAF InTandem Leadership workshop for General Secretaries. It was only this past Friday that him and I communicated via WhatsApp and exchanged photos from the workshop,” she said.
“I would like to pass my sincere condolences to the Siyauya family and the Namibia Football Association for their loss. The NFA, COSAFA and CAF have lost a valuable asset to African football. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
SAFA President said Siyauya’s passing was a huge loss to his family, the region and the continent.
“This is such a sad and huge loss. Our sincere condolences to his family and we grieve his passing. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace,” said the SAFA President.
