18 May 2024 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has sent condolences to the family of late former player Joel Faya.
Faya’s daughter Nombuso said the 66-year-old former AmaZulu player passed away on Friday after a short illness and is likely to be buried on Saturday next week (25 May 2024). “We are finalising the plans but it looks like the funeral will be held next week on Saturday,” she said.
AmaZulu said in a statement that Faya, who served the club in different roles after his playing days, made a huge contribution to the KwaZulu-Natal side.
“Faya’s dedication, passion, and talent have left an indelible mark on our club’s history, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players and fans. His presence on and off the field will be deeply missed, and his spirit will always remain a part of our club,” the club said.
South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan said Faya made a huge mark and will be greatly missed. “I wish to extend my sincerest condolences to the family of Joel Faya and we are praying for them to be comforted. May God grant the family healing and comfort. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Dr Jordaan said.
We as SAFA would like to convey our deepest sympathy and heartfelt sorrow to his family, friends and the club during this difficult time.
May his soul rest peace.
