1 March 2025 – The SAFA Coaching Education Department hosted a Coach Educators Course this week and it ended on a successful note.
There were 22 coaches in attendance at the course held at SAFA House and Head of Coach Education Keneilwe Mathibela said they were introduced to the new teaching and learning methods, which is comprising of the new methodology of coaching.
“What was covered and what was taught to the up-and-coming coaching educators is the new skill of andragogy, which is the opposite of pedagogy with the direct teaching method. Andragogy is basically understanding that we are dealing with adults, so it comprises, or it stems from understanding that adults already have their own experiences. There is self-reflection, there is peer learning where they are able to learn from each other, and therefore now a coach educator needs to understand their role in this process is to facilitate learning and guide the coach educators in the right direction to understand themselves, their participants, the environment, the attitude, the understanding, the abilities and all of that,” she said.
“This is one of the contents that constitutes being a coach educator and a coach. This is what was covered this week, to try and introduce the coaches to the new methods. Obviously, most of them have gone through coaching courses where they feel they were hammered in a way the feedback was given to them.”
