4 April 2025 – South African match officials Luxolo Badi, Akhona Makalima and Abongile Tom will officiate at the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations later this month.
CAF has appointed Badi and Makalima as Referees while Tom will be assigned as a Video Assistant Referee.
This year’s edition of the U20 AFCON will be held in Egypt from 27 April – 18 May and Senegal are the defending champions.
Assistant Referee Cledwin Baloyi from Limpopo is currently representing South Africa in the U17 AFCON finals that are taking place in Morocco.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) National Referees Committee and the Referees Department congratulated these officials for continuing to represent South Africa on the international stage.
South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan applauded the officials and said their continued representation of the country across the globe was an inspiration to those who want to follow in their footsteps.
