Hugh Jackman received a warm welcome as he kicked off his concert series, From New York, With Love, at the legendary Radio City Music Hall.
HUGH JACKMAN’S CONCERT
The evening, packed with music and emotion, saw Jackman perform songs from his celebrated stage and film roles.
He sang songs from his movies such as Les Misérables, The Greatest Showman, and The Music Man, according to People.
For the 56-year-old star, this marked the first solo concert in five years, a momentous return to the stage. Before taking the stage, Jackman shared a heartfelt moment with his audience.
“I hosted the Tonys here 22 years ago, and my dream was to perform here. Thank you for being here,” he said, his voice thick with emotion.
HUGH JACKMAN’S NEW MUSIC CAREER
The sold-out crowd responded with cheers, clearly thrilled to see the actor-turned-singer back in action. Jackman was visibly moved, holding back tears as he reflected on his journey to this moment.
But the highlight of the evening was a surprise appearance from Jackman’s longtime friend, Ryan Reynolds, according to Billboard.
The Canadian actor joined Jackman on stage for a ‘Hugh & A’ session.
HUGH JACKMAN AND REYNOLD’S FRIENDSHIP
Reynolds, ever the comedian, joked, “I was told this was going to be a comedy version of Les Mis as a one-man show. We all said it was a terrible idea, but he carried on.”
Reynolds then pivoted to a more heartfelt tribute to his friend.
“This was the first major movie star I ever worked with, 16 or 17 years ago on X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Reynolds recalled.
“I saw a movie star, a capital M movie star… He showed a kind of courtesy and gentleness that made everyone feel valued.”
A HOLLYWOOD FRIENDSHIP
He went on to call Jackman “the best human being I know. And I have four kids!” The crowd roared with laughter and applause.
Jackman, in turn, returned the affection, calling Reynolds his “fifth best friend” and thanking him for making the appearance, according to Hindustan Times.
“I love you, Ryan Reynolds, I love you, man,” he said, his warmth towards his friend palpable.
The concert’s setlist featured some of Jackman’s most iconic songs. Fans sang along to Les Misérables’ Stars and The Music Man’s Trouble.
HUGH JACKMAN’S TRADEMARK CHARISMA
A medley of hits from The Boy from Oz thrilled the crowd, while The Greatest Showman songs like A Million Dreams and From Now O sent the audience into a frenzy.
Hugh Jackman even invited guest singer Gabriela Carrillo to perform Never Enough. This is a beloved ballad from the film.
Throughout the nearly two-hour show, Jackman displayed his trademark charisma.
His energy never flagged as he delivered a mix of Broadway tunes and crowd-pleasing classics, including Neil Diamond’s Crunchy Granola Suite.
MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY
The actor also took a moment to perform You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen. He dedicated it to his long-time friend Gus Worland and his Gotcha4Life Foundation.
This is a mental health initiative in Australia.
