Rulani Mokwena makes flying start at Pyramids

Rulani Mokwena has made an impressive start to life as head coach of Egyptian giants Pyramids FC.

The South African tactician has guided Pyramids to their best start to a season in the last five years.

After two matches, the former African champions have collected six points. They have scored five goals and are yet to concede.

Mokwena’s journey to Pyramids has been built through several coaching experiences. He started in development football before joining Mamelodi Sundowns as an assistant coach.

He later worked at Orlando Pirates as an assistant, but he also had a spell as interim coach.

He briefly coached Chippa United before returning to Sundowns. He eventually became the club’s head coach and won four league titles among seven trophies.

Mokwena then took charge of Wydad Casablanca in Morocco and MC Alger in Algeria before moving to Al Ittihad Tripoli in Libya in 2026.

His spell was cut short due to reported unmet promises made by the club’s management regarding player recruitment.

He then moved to Pyramids, where his perfect start has immediately raised expectations in Egypt.
