Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Kimberley Regional Court recently imposed a 10 years’ prison sentence on 24-year-old Ricardo Van Nel following the murder of 25-year-old Reece Snyders in Homestead on Monday, 05 December 2022. The Court heard that on the said day the deceased and his friends were walking down Linch Street in Homestead when they were accosted by the accused and friends who tried to solicit money from them, a fight broke out that led to the deceased being fatally stabbed. The accused was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for murder and was declared unfit to possess a firearm. The District Commissioner of Frances Baard, Major General Gabathata Makgari, praised the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Samuel Tshokolo Modise (in photo), for the meticulous investigation of the case and for ensuring that the accused is brought to book. The police in mitigating contact crimes will continue to engage with communities through the Community Police Forums on crime prevention initiatives. The police are encouraging the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the “RATE OUR SERVICE” online survey to assist the police in improving services and to report criminal activities via the MySAPS App or 08600 10111.
