Chiefs debutant stuns former Amakhosi star — Khanye finally gives Glamour Boys praise
Junior Khanye has broken his silence — and Kaizer Chiefs fans will take it this time.
For the first time this season, the former Amakhosi star handed his old club public praise after Sunday’s 0-0 stalemate with Golden Arrows.
But it was not the whole team that impressed him. It was the man between the sticks.
Debutante goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner walked into the biggest shirt in South African football and walked out with a clean sheet. Khanye noticed.
“For me, for his first game, because Chiefs is a big team, and we judge you on your first few games if you are a fit… He was very calm, and I think he did very well,” Khanye said.
Leaner was not forced into a string of spectacular saves. He did something harder: he looked like he belonged.
“Not much in terms of making saves, but in terms of positioning and the way he commanded his backline. Well done to the keeper,” Khanye added. “There were not that many mistakes. I liked the way he protected his area.”
That is high praise from a man who has rarely been kind to Chiefs in his analysis on iDiski TV.
If Leaner keeps commanding his box like that, Khanye may have to find more kind words. Chiefs supporters will hope this is only the start.
