Mofokeng scores as Union SG thrash Lommel 5-0 to go top
Relebohile Mofokeng scored early as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise cruised to a 5-0 victory over Lommel SK on Saturday, moving to the top of the Belgian Pro League.
Besfort Zeneli opened the scoring in the third minute before Mofokeng doubled Union SG’s advantage four minutes later.
The South African forward finished in the seventh minute after being set up by Mateo Biondic, giving Union SG a 2-0 lead.
Ilan Hurtevent added a third in the 65th minute before Raul Florucz scored twice late in the match, in the 88th minute and stoppage time, to complete the rout.
Mofokeng started the match and was substituted in the 64th minute. The goal was his third in the Belgian Pro League and came in only his second league start.
The 21-year-old joined Union SG from Orlando Pirates during the off-season and has made an immediate impact in Belgium, scoring on his league debut against Westerlo and again against Sint-Truiden earlier this month.
The victory leaves Union SG on 16 points from six matches, with five wins and one draw, one point ahead of Gent. The club’s next fixture is against Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League.
