Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Committed to curb the prevalence ongoing gang violence in Ravensmead policing precinct the strategic deployment of members resulted in the detention of two men when they were found in possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition in two isolated incidents. The police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident on Saturday 12 May 2024. Upon their arrival in Mildene Road,Ravensmead at around 09:45, a witness pointed out the possible location of the suspect. The members tactically approached the identified residence, searched the occupants which resulted in the discovery and confiscation of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They detained a 41-year-old male on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention, police members performed high-density patrols on Monday 13 May 2024. When the patrol vehicle entered Daisy Street, Uitsig, the members noticed a suspicious man. They searched him and in the process confiscated a 9mm firearm and ammunition. The 22-year-old man was detained on a charge for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Goodwood Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
