Media Statement FICKSBURG – A 28-year-old accused, Teboho Mohlabi, was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment. It was discovered during that on Saturday 03 September 2022 at about 17:00, the 47-year-old complainant, who is the mother of the victim, left her children with the accused to take care of them in her absence, as he was a well-known family friend. At 18:30, the same day the complainant returned home. A then seven-year-old victim reported to her mother about the ordeal. The complainant then examined the victim and found clear signs of violation. The victim then identified the accused as the person who sexually abused her. The case was reported at Ficksburg SAPS. The accused had already fled the scene. He was traced and arrested on 30 January 2023. He is originally from Ha Liteboho village, Lihlabeng Liribe Lesotho. Mohlabi was sentenced in the Bethlehem Regional Court by Magistrate, Mrs Mpama, on 17 September 2024. The case was investigated by Sergeant Nhlapo of the Ficksburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit, who worked tirelessly together with the prosecutor, Mr Nhlapo, to ensure successful prosecution. His particulars will also be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders. He is further found unsuitable to work with children and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
