RAF CEO Collins Letsoalo suspended amid corruption allegations
Collins Letsoalo, CEO of the Road Accident Fund (RAF), has been temporarily suspended following allegations of corruption tied to a R79 million office lease deal, sources confirmed today.
The suspension comes as the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) probes claims of malfeasance in the leasing of the RAF’s Johannesburg headquarters, with a preliminary report suggesting Letsoalo may have influenced a bid committee to favor Mowana Properties.
A whistleblower’s complaint to the Public Protector further alleges irregularities in tenders for cleaning, security, and legal services under Letsoalo’s leadership.
The embattled CEO has denied wrongdoing, calling the SIU investigation a “fishing expedition” and insisting the lease deal was transparent, driven by safety concerns and cost savings.
Letsoalo also pointed to a disgruntled former employee as the source of the accusations.
This is not the first time Letsoalo has been in the spotlight. He has previously spoken out against systemic fraud at the RAF, highlighting how fraudulent claims by law firms and others have drained resources. The SIU recently recovered R318 million in duplicate payments, underscoring the scale of the issue.
As investigations continue, the RAF faces growing scrutiny over its governance. Neither the RAF nor the SIU has commented publicly on the suspension, leaving stakeholders awaiting clarity on Letsoalo’s future and the agency’s next steps.
