A violent, racially motivated altercation reportedly broke out at Centenary Secondary School in Asherville, Durban, just before 9AM on 4 February 2025, leaving at least three learners hospitalized.
Police and several security companies responded swiftly to the scene, struggling to contain the escalating situation.
Due to safety concerns, the school principal made the decision to close the school for the day, notifying parents to collect their children immediately.
The SAPS Public Order Policing unit was called in to assist with restoring order. While the exact cause of the conflict is still under investigation, initial reports point to racial tensions as a contributing factor.
