Media Statement POLOKWANE – The members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit working with Provincial Tracking Team have nabbed a 33-year-old male for murder and rape incident that occurred at Matseke village under Botlokwa policing area on 01 June 2024. At about at 23:00, the deceased aged 37 was seated inside a silver Toyota Hilux bakkie at the sportsground in company of a 33-year-old female victim when they were attacked by an unknown male suspect with a stone. A 37-year-old male victim was hit with a brick at the back of his head and instantly died at the scene. The suspect also raped the 33-year-old woman and later took her to another location driving the deceased motor vehicle and continued to rape her on arrival. Attempts to contact the deceased were made by his family who immediately went to Botlokwa police station after he failed to answer his cellular phone. The tracker of the motor vehicle was activated and subsequently located it in the policing area. Upon seeing the police approaching, a 33-year-old suspect attempted to drive away and a high-speed chase ensued with the police until it lost control and stopped. The suspect managed to evade an arrest and fled on foot. A case of murder and rape was opened at the local police station and immediately transferred to the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit for further investigations. Intensive police investigations were conducted and led to the apprehension of the suspect at his residence in the early hours of Sunday 28 July 2024 and some of the properties belonging to the deceased were also recovered during his arrest. The deceased was positively identified at the scene on the fateful night as Brian Moloko Letshogohla. The suspect will appear before Morebeng Magistrate court soon facing a charge of murder, rape and robbery.
