Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the investigations conducted by the Family Violence Child, Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for their dedication and commitment to secure two life sentences meted out against a 57-year-old male accused of raping two victims aged eight, by the Modimolle Regional Court on Wednesday 26 March 2025. The Regional Court heard that, the accused Jacob Kwinda aged 57, on the 25 October 2015 at around 21:30, called two children from their house, not far from his residential place at Raphuthi village and raped them. The children informed their siblings about the ordeal. The matter was reported to the police and immediately, the suspect was arrested The Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit investigated the matter to the latter, making sure that the conviction is secured. The accused was never granted bail until he was finally found guilty of raping the two children and ultimately sentenced to two life direct imprisonment during November 2017. The accused served three years of imprisonment, and was granted parole and released in the year 2021. While the accused was released from Correctional Service Centre, the Director of Public Prosecutions lodged an appeal at High Court. On Thursday, 26 March 2025, the High Court summoned the accused, Jacob Kwinda, to appear before Modimolle Regional Court. He was sentenced again to two life terms direct imprisonment for rape he committed during October 2015. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed her gratitude to Family Violence and Child Protection Unit member for his excellent work to conduct a thorough investigation in ensuring that sexual offences suspects are forever removed from the society.
