Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – In a momentous stride towards enhancing community safety and bolstering the SAPS’s effectiveness, Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene welcomed the promotion of 31 officers in management positions. This commendable achievement not only signifies the remarkable dedication and expertise of these officers but also reflects the unwavering commitment of the SAPS to serve and protect our communities diligently. The 31 posts included the appointment of the Buffalo City Metro District Commissioner, Maj Gen Joseph Wright as well as station commanders from across the Province. Maj Gen Wright was appointment from 1 May 2024. His operational experience spans over thirty two years and he possesses a wealth of experience. His qualifications include, a National Diploma in Policing, a Diploma in Law (Paralegal), BTech in Policing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and Industry IR 4.0 (4th Industrial Revolution). Lt Gen Mene also proudly conferred ranks to 31 station commanders from the rank of Captain to Colonel. The appointed station commanders resumed their official duties in their respective police stations as from 10 May 2024. In congratulating the appointees, Lt Gen Mene emphasised that the pivotal role that these officers will play in upholding the values of integrity, professionalism and accountability. ‘Your promotions come with a weighty responsibility to lead by example, inspire your peers, and foster trust and collaboration with the communities you serve. Let us take Operation Shanela to the communities and make our presence felt .Your promotion marks a significant milestone in your career path so as you assume your new roles, I urge you to uphold to abide by the Code of Conduct, excel in whatever you do and always make sure that your communities are policed and served,’ added Lt Gen Mene.
