Media Statement MTHATHA – The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene leads Festive Season Operations with the newly appointed Constables in Mthatha today 27 December 2024. The OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Norman Modishana welcomed everyone present in the hottest area in Mthatha. When the Provincial Commissioner is welcoming the Constables, she emphasized corruption that they must not involve themselves in any form of corruption. In her address, she mentioned a case where the police members were arrested for corruption after they used the SAPS petrol card to get cash back. “I am warning you to refrain from using state resources for your personal benefit as this will lead to disciplinary steps taken against you and / or dismissal. I appreciate that you chose this organization to be your employer, and the community members are waiting for your services and that should be done with respect and dignity,” Lt Gen Mene concluded After she welcomed the Constables, they embarked on Festive Season Operations and conducted a roadblock on the N2, intending to confiscate illegal firearms, drugs, and dangerous weapons and arrest those who break traffic laws.
